Christians can receive dispositions of ashes in four ways starting at 7 AM
John Wesley UMC will again offer several opportunities for worshipers to receive the disposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday.
Commuters passing by the church on Savannah Highway can drive through the parking lot between 7 am and 9 am. Ministers will be stationed to place an ash mark on the forehead of those who do not have time to go inside for a more formal services.
Those who prefer to enter the church can go to the Chapel between 7 am and 10 am where they can receive ashes.
There are also two formal Ash Wednesday worship services in the sanctuary:
- 12 noon
- 6:30 pm
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent — the 46 days before Easter which are marked by a time of reflection in thinking of the passion of Christ and his ministry leading up to Holy Week and Easter Sunday, April 12. Lent lasts 40 days (not counting Sundays) which represent Jesus’s time of temptation in the wilderness where he fasted and was tempted by Satan.
